Printer will not join Wi‑Fi

Password loops, missing SSID and drops after setup.

  1. Confirm the printer supports your band (many inkjets are 2.4 GHz only). Temporarily enable a 2.4 GHz SSID if needed.
  2. Move the printer closer to the router for setup. Walls and microwaves cause silent failures.
  3. Re-enter the password from a printed copy — hidden characters and wrong keyboard layout are common.
  4. Forget the network on the printer, restart printer and router, then run wireless setup again.
  5. Disable AP isolation / client isolation and guest mode. Printers must see other devices on the LAN.
  6. As a fallback, finish setup over USB, then run the maker’s wireless helper, or add a Wi‑Fi print adapter from the shop.

Technician notes

  • WPA3-only networks can reject older printers. A mixed WPA2/WPA3 mode often fixes it.
  • MAC filtering on the router will block a new printer until you allow it.
